Pero sus dos ojos negros se me clavan como espadas.

I was originally supposed to stay in Madrid until the 23rd of March but my flight to Brussels was cancelled because of the attacks on the airport and metro. So I stayed a couple more days and caught a flight on Friday to Charleroi.

I had time to see many things that I didn’t have the time to visit during my previous visits such as La Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, El Museo Sorolla (that I loved!) and El Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid.

I also spent my last evening with some of my friends from fencing, visiting different places and bars (including La Taberna del Capitán Alatriste). Our main guide for the evening was my friend Bárbara who, at each stop, gave us a bit of historical context.

I was delighted to spend time with my friends both in and out of fencing class. I even filmed part of a saber fight.

It is always a pleasure to come back to this place I like to call home.

We’ll Meet Again.

I was lucky enough to spend a few days in Madrid last week…. And I already can’t wait to come back! I visited a bunch of places, some that I had already seen during my previous stays in Madrid, and some I was discovering for the first time. I also got a bunch of things. 🙂

  1. Street Art Portugal, awesome late Christmas gift from my best friend ❤
  2. Kat Von D’s Everlasting Lipstick Witches
  3. Kat Von D’s Ink Liner Neruda
  4. Kandinsky A Retrospective, great exhibition at The Palacio de Cibeles that I managed to see last Saturday
  5. Adorable Cloud Pillow I found at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza’s shop
  6. NYX Cosmetics’ Beauty School Dropout Palette Freshman
  7. A bunch of Pin up stickers, also  from the Museo Thyssen (sorry can’t find a link!)
  8. Kat Von D’s Shade + Light contour palette

Apart from shopping for make up, visiting art exhibitions and hanging out with my best friend, I managed to go to fencing class on Friday evening and did my very first rapier and dagger session. After almost 8 months without practising fencing, I must admit that I struggled a lot, the coordination with both hands required for this class making it even more complicated for me. I enjoyed myself nonetheless and was super happy to see most of my brothers in arms.

Until next time, Madrid!

A week end in Madrid.

I just came back from a 4 days week end in Madrid. I got to see many of my friends from fencing on Friday. I miss practising fencing and hanging out with my friends after class. I really can’t wait to move back to Madrid (next year hopefully!). Also a special thank you to my best friend who’s the sweetest person ever and agreed to spend the whole week end with me!

25th Birthday: of growing up and gaining in confidence.

So here it is, I just turned a quarter of a century. It is both kinda scary and exciting at the same time.

This is my first year away from my hometown, and I feel like this is also the year I have grown up the most. When I moved to Madrid (albeit temporarily) in order to start my new job, I was apprehensive but determined. So I sucked it up, packed and left Le Havre, on the cold morning of January 12th (I am pretty sure it was raining? I mean, it’s not as if it rains 75% of the year over there). To be honest, the first few weeks in Spain, and even though I had known some of my colleagues for a year from a previous job, I felt very much alone. Obviously, to me at least, the best was to start something new; something that would enable me to meet new people and be more at ease with my new life in Madrid.

IMG_2850For years, I had wanted to take fencing classes but never voiced this wish to my family, either by lack of motivation or by fear of failing. Probably both.

Anyway, long story short, this is how I started taking historical fencing classes (I can’t thank my friend Antonio enough for that! Muchas gracias Anto!!). I met wonderful people, and for the first time in my life, I was happy with doing some kind of physical exercise. Rapier practice (nb: Verdadera destreza) and the friendships I made along the way are some of my favourite memories from my stay in Madrid.

I’m impressed how something that started as a simple way to pass the time made me more confident about myself and reinforced my will to achieve my project (aka enter a make-up school and make a living as a make-up artist).

Creatively speaking I think my shyness is still holding me back, but I’m getting there.

A special thank you to all the people helping me daily through the many steps leading to the achievement of my dream! ❤️
